Saturday the 22nd Of April marks Earth Day! It raises awareness and support for environmental protection and sustainability. The first Earth Day was celebrated in 1970, and it has since become a global event with millions of people participating in various activities and events to emphasise the importance of taking action to protect the environment and promote sustainability.
This Earth Day, we’ve decided to let you, our customers know the steps we take towards sustainability. As a small business, we make the changes we can, and are always looking for ways to improve our packaging and products to be more sustainable.
1. All of our packaging is recyclable
Recyclable packaging refers to materials that can be processed and reused to create new products, reducing the amount of waste that ends up in landfills or the environment. It’s a great way to help create a circular economy. Using recycled materials is beneficial because it:
1. Reduces waste
When products are packaged in non-recyclable materials, they are often thrown away after use, contributing to the growing amount of waste in landfills. However, when packaging is made from recyclable materials, it can be processed and used again to create new products, reducing the amount of waste in landfills.
2. Conserves resources
When packaging is made from recycled materials, it requires fewer natural resources such as trees, oil, and water to produce. By using recycled materials instead of new resources, we can conserve these resources for future generations.
3. Reduces greenhouse gas emissions
When packaging is thrown away and ends up in landfills, it decomposes and releases methane gas, a potent greenhouse gas that contributes to global warming. By recycling packaging, we can reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfills.
2. Our supplements use sustainable ingredients
Sustainable ingredients refer to those that are produced in a way that is environmentally and socially responsible. Many companies use cheap produce that is killing the environment. Here at Pet Drs our supplements are made with sustainable, high quality ingredients for your pets! We have formulated our supplements to not only be sustainable but also be:
1. Plant Based
Using plant-based ingredients is not only good for health, but it also has a positive impact on the environment. Plant-based ingredients have a lower environmental impact compared to animal products. Animal agriculture is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation, and water pollution. By choosing plant-based ingredients, we can reduce our carbon footprint and help mitigate the impacts of climate change. Additionally, plant-based ingredients require less water and land to produce, making them a more sustainable choice for the environment.
2. Don’t contain fish oil
Fish oil is a popular supplement to reduce inflammation, improve heart health, and boost brain function. It is incredibly high in omegas 3 and 6. However, the production of fish oil is unsustainable and has negative impacts on the environment. Due to overfishing, bycatching, pollution and unsustainable aquaculture, fish oil is one of the most unsustainable sources of the omegas. At Pet Drs we use plant based alternatives in our product including our Mega Oil, an omega supplement!
Here at Pet Drs we try to make educated decisions on sustainability for not only the pets that use our products, but also our earth.
